I really enjoy teaching. These kids are fun and smart and they work hard. They are eager to learn and I rarely have to work with them on their behavior, which gives us so much more time for learning!
Shashwath was one of my first students to sign up for regular lessons and he has become a bit of a golden goose for my tutoring platform. :D He came to me as a second grader early this year. COVID-19 had hit during his first grade year and he spent most of his second grade year learning online. Consequently, his test scores had tanked (this same thing happened to most students, especially those in elementary school). So, his mom signed him up for tutoring once a week. We'd work through a grammar concept or learn a new aspect of writing, etc... then, I'd send him worksheets to work through for most of the rest of the week.
Thankfully, Shashwath is a super bright kid. Within two months his test scores had jumped back up, way up! His mom was so impressed that she handed me four more students, including her 8th grade son who today informed me that his own test scores had gone from the 87th percentile to the 95th percentile over the course of the summer (so, when I started teaching him).
It isn't often that I get to hear how well my students are doing so when they tell me, I can't help but feel so proud of them!
I love working with such wonderful families :D
Harichandana (Shashwath's mom) also gave me two of Shashwath's buddies from the neighborhood (this story reminds me of them):
