My Students - Alice

Alice is one of my 5th graders, the oldest child of a very nice Korean American family in California. She is...how do you say it? Gifted with gab...she is a big time talker, and is also really, really bright and creative. She is also a hard worker - yay!

Alice is an especially gifted creative writer. Sometimes, I will assign a prompt and am always shocked and pleasantly surprised when the stories she creates turn out to be super funny and clever. I spend a lot of time during our lessons laughing :D

I have been lucky to have her and her younger sister Irene, who is her polar opposite in every respect, in my classroom since I started teaching online.

I will never forget the very first time Alice wrote a creative story. the prompt was something along the lines of 'Write about a feeling experienced by an imaginary character.' And when Alice came back she told a story about a lonely bristle on a toothbrush because all of the other bristles had fallen out. The way she told it! It was very funny and very clever.

Anyway, it is always fun teaching Alice. She is one of those students that I really have to work to find challenging material for (it is not uncommon for me to use 7th and 8th grade lesson plans for Alice) and she always picks up the information and retains it very well.

Basically, she is a dream student!! Yay :D
